Right in the heart of Old Town, where Mexican culture thrives, El Sueño pops up, giving us all the trendy feels we've been craving. One of the standout features of El Sueño, apart from its mouth-watering menu, is its wonderfully enchanting outdoor area. It's a rare find in Old Town to have a spacious and serene spot to dine under the San Diego sky. With a name that means "The Dream," it's like Old Town knew just what we have been dreaming of, an aesthetically pleasing dinner spot with top-notch food & service!
Setting the Scene
From the moment I pulled up, the valet was on point. Just past the hostess stand, it's like stepping into a cool blend of Old Town's classic charm with some fresh, modern touches. It's still the warm, familiar place I spent most weekends as a kid, but with a fun, trendy twist. Neon signs, string lights & outdoor swings are always a YESSS for me!✨
Digging into the Menu
Guacamole: Straight-up fresh and tasty. No frills, just good vibes in every bite. Being Mexican, I’m a bit picky with my guacamole & I am happy to report I will be ordering to accompany my meal every time! 🥑 The tortilla chips are what you see hiding in the brown paper bag.
Caesar Salad: This isn't your everyday Caesar. It's got that house dressing and a sprinkle of Cotija cheese, and come on whole romaine hearts that make it top-notch for enjoying & sharing! 🥗
Shrimp Tacos: These are a must-try. They've got a spicy kick with serrano and tomato, and that hint of tequila. What really makes them is the decadent Oaxacan Cheese melted onto the tortilla. If there’s one thing you order, THESE ARE IT! 🌮🍤
Chicken Enchiladas: Enchiladas for me are always pure comfort & joy. These knocked out my current favorites with juicy chicken, and tangy salsa verde, and come with a delish side of rice and beans that is just perfection. Next time, I’m not sharing. ;)
Props to the Crew
The team at El Sueño? Top-notch. From the moment I walked into the last sip of my drink, everyone was all about making the experience personal and extraordinary. Our server Robinson was absolutely excellent. His knowledge and command of the menu was beyond impressive and steered us to our deliciously curated dinner.
After our meal, he was kind enough to show us a sneak peek of the upcoming speakeasy to open in the next months.. all I’m gunna say is keep an eye on their Instagram for that one! 😍 No spoilers.
